We envision an interdependent web of Mycelium Communities that spans the entire globe. Our goal is to create a viable, scalable alternative to current systems, structures, and ways of living that are reproducing patterns of separation, powerlessness, and scarcity by sharing resources within and between communities based on needs, impacts, and resources. We focus on anchoring the power of love on the material plane to co-create a local and global culture of nonviolence.
Currently, we are a bunch of very committed people who are moving towards establishing Mycelium communities based on the NGL framework in Spain, the Netherlands, the US and Australia. So far we are small. Some of us have already found land and have started living together, some of us are still searching for a place and some of us are in the process of figuring out who is going to be part of the initial cofounding group for that community. And, simultaneously, some of us are also caring for the connections between those budding communities.
“Mycelium" refers to a living network of tiny fungal threads that grow through and within the web of life, carrying information and nutrients great distances in support of collective thriving, in interdependence with other species. Biologically, the mycelium is the body of the fungus, the mushrooms that we see above ground are the “fruit”
We see NGL communities as being like these above ground mushrooms and the Global Mycelium Web of NGL live-in communities as the mycelium. We call ourselves "the Mycelium" to remind ourselves that we are one community, even as we are many emergent nodes around the world. We envision these nodes responding to the needs of their local surroundings, sharing resources collaboratively, and remaining actively connected to their initial source — the NGL framework and the vision of fully interdependent living on all levels.
The Mycelium is intricately linked to NGL - the Nonviolent Global Liberation Community birthed by Miki Kashtan. Our vision, all our tools and offerings, our way of living (from major decisions to small moments of who is doing the dishes) stands on the foundation of the NGL framework.
Here are some examples:
Making Decisions together - based on integration of all the needs rather than getting stuck in either-ors
Sharing resources with each other - based on full willingness rather than using incentives to get people to do what we want
Giving each other feedback - based on an orientation to learning rather than performance
Sharing information - based on full transparency rather than control
Engaging with conflict - based on what actually is in capacity for people rather than threatening consequences

We rely also heavily on the Vision Mobilization orientation towards life, which was birthed from within NGL.
Because we are still quite small and new, the pathways to engaging with the Mycelium are still currently flowing through NGL Online. For now, you are invited to follow us by joining the NGL newsletter, where we share events and big announcements. And by joining NGL, where we share access to observing various meetings related to the Mycelium and to the Noticeboard, where we share updates from Mycelium nodes.
We aim to create pathways for engaging specifically with the Mycelium by the end of 2026.
